A man has spent $ 23 million traveling around the world with his two cats: visiting the Eiffel Tower in Paris and exploring the channels in Amsterdam.
The owner Lazar Jaksimovic, 27, won his two British shots, King Louie and Todd in 2023.
Since then, Lazar, and his wife, Kathleen Cheng, 28, a medical student, have brought their cats to 10 countries, including Siberia, Spain, France and Mexico.
The cats will travel with Lazar and Kathleen by plane in the hallway, either sitting on a chair or in a port.
Lazar said to pay more than $ 600 a trip for King Louie and Todd to travel with them.
He said that cats love to travel so much that they could not imagine leaving them back.
“When we arrived at Todd and Louie, we formed them to be adventurers in the city,” said Joksimovic, a content creator, Chicago, Illinois. “Chicago is a strong city, and when we got them, we gradually exposed them to the sound of the city. I wanted to take them everywhere with me, they like to go out and explore. Louie constantly asks to go outside. I always loved traveling, so I thought why not to take them with me.”
In August 2023, Joksimovic brought King Louie home and the following month, he arrived at Todd.
As I wanted to be able to carry them, Joksimovic would take King Louie and Todd around Chicago to get used to strong noises.
“After reaching them, we used to go to parks and malls to make them accustomed to strong noises,” added Joksimovic. “They were very adaptable. One week after they got them, we started to take them out. We gradually expose them to noisy environments like shopping centers and city center.”
The first trip of Louie and Todd was to the hometown of Lazar de Toronto, Canada, before Lazar and Kathleen took them to Mexico City in April 2024.
Lazar said that the four -hour flight was “easy” for them, and Mexico City was “very peaceful” compared to Chicago.
“They were eight months old when we went to Mexico City, we spent five days,” Jaksimovic shared. “It was a four -hour flight. They did very well, then all the strong areas of Chicago had traveled. For them, Mexico City was very calm, the key is that cats are desensitable in strong environments so that they are used to.”
After visiting Mexico City, Lazar took Todd and Louie on a European journey: visiting Hungary, Netherlands, Croatia and Montenegro.
He said that Louie and Todd loved strolling through the streets of Paris and exploring the “calm” channels of Amsterdam.
Paris is much calmer than Chicago, and cats loved strolling through the streets, “said Joksimovic.” They loved the bridges, gave them a good point of view of the environment. In Amsterdam, the channels were so quiet, they loved to snatch the air around the canals and see the ships passing. “
When it comes to flying with Todd and Louie, Lazar said, on average, will spend $ 600 on a pet care ticket for both cats.
He said that some countries also call for rage vaccine tests and a travel health ticket, which can cost up to $ 500.
“A pet care ticket in general with American Airlines and most European airlines are $ 150, so a round trip with them will be $ 600,” said Joksimovic. “One of the biggest costs we have is the travel ticket for the trip we need to have for them. This can be up to $ 500, and is only valid for a trip.”
Lazar said that some of the challenges they have faced when flying are when Todd and Louie are not allowed to leave their carrier, but said that most airlines have allowed them to sit in the seat by Lazar.
“At first, Louie was very unpleasant, it was not very cold like Todd,” added Joksimovic. “For Louie we removed it every day for half an hour because it would be nervous for strong noises. Something Louie hates is limited to her carrier on the plane. When we couldn’t get it out, we feel bad because she doesn’t like it very much.”
