Exclusive | One of the final mansions of NYC’s age has sold $ 46 million, and is a masterpiece of Stanford White

One of the few remaining single -family mansions designed by the architect Legendary Gilded Age Stanford White has just found a new owner, with a strong discount on his original list price.

The Casa de Limaria de 973 Fifth Ave., overlooking Central Park, has been sold for $ 46 million after years of price cuts and market stalls, according to city records presented last week.

The Beaux-Arts Residence of 16,000 square feet, built in the early 1900’s and restored with great detail, was recently listed by $ 49.9 million.

At its peak, he sought up to $ 80 million when he reached the market in 2021.

The buyer, who operated on the Limited Liability Company “Bliss in the 5th LLC”, officially closed the property on May 21. The new owner could not immediately be identified with the press time.

The seller, an entity linked to the former -Soci of Goldman Sachs, David Leuschen, bought the mansion in 2012 for $ 42 million. In the following years, the owner invested a lot of large -scale reform to preserve the architectural integrity of the house while integrating modern luxuries.

“Everything was completely restored or put again,” said Andres Perea-Garzon de Corcoran, who called the property with Carrie Chiang and Lesley Schulhof, formerly told The Post. “It’s a tribute to Stanford White.”

The six -story house is one of the two houses in Manhattan that are still true to White’s original single -family design.

White, the architectural credits of which include the Washington Square Arch and the Player Club, was a third of the famous MCKIM firm, Mead & White. Most of his residential works have been repopulated in institutional or commercial uses.

“973 Fifth Avenue is not only an address, it is a declaration of timeless elegance and ambition,” Chiang said in a statement before.

“Every corner, every detail tells an unmatched luxury story, where history and modernity are intertwined. It creates an unforgettable experience for those who are lucky enough to call it at home.”

In fact, the mansion combines the greatness of the Old World with 21st century comfort.

Among its characteristics of the period: new wooden chimneys, carpentry carved with cuts, stained glass and growing ceilings.

The updates include five kitchens, a new elevator, a terrace on the roof overlooking the sweeping city, a steam bath finished in Venetian plaster, a silver vault and a winery winery controlled by climate.

Although much of the architectural flare has been preserved, some original details have evolved.

“Some of the interiors could have been Stanford White,” said the architect, architect Samuel White, previously. “But I suspect owners over the years changed the interiors.”

White’s legacy is not without controversy.

In 1906, the architect was fatally shot by the millionaire Harry Kendall Thaw with a dramatic and great profile murder in the original Madison Square Garden, designed by White. The slaughter, motivated by Thaw’s jealousy for White’s relationship with the showgirl Evelyn Nesbit, is still one of New York’s most sensational scandals.

The sale of 973 fifth may not have shattered records, but its historical importance and the architectural pedigree still made it a coveted gem in a busy market.

As Perea-Garzon said, “This is incredibly rare.”
